Earth Day at Hairston Park

On Saturday, April 21st, members of FOHP were joined by Park Pride, DeKalb County Commissioners Steve Bradshaw and Gregory Adams, and the DeKalb County Parks and Recreation for a volunteer workday in celebration of Earth Day.

Earth day at Hairston Park was a huge success! Several members of the community came out to support the efforts but many were new to Hairston Park and the Redan area. It is safe to say, that our park has recruited some new visitors with its beauty and acreages. A whopping 82+ volunteers showed up to get dirty and help clear the trails.

Check out some of the photos below (and more in our gallery) to see some of our progress and how volunteers eagerly removed fallen trees, collected litter, and cleared the pathways of trails for park enthusiast to enjoy. Special thanks to all of our Friends of Hairston Park leader Gwendolyn Stegall, Park Pride’s volunteer manager John Ahern, the Friends of Hairston Park members, volunteers from Wells Fargo , Home Depot, Invesco, Pastor Vandy C. Simmons and members of Antioch AME Church, DeKalb Kids Project Inc., King of Pops refreshments courtesy of Park Pride and the many other volunteers from surrounding communities and the Metro area-you truly helped make this day a successful one!
